Who has the Best Odds to Win the Myrtle Beach Classic?

It's tight at the top of the Myrtle Beach Classic market and the battle for favoritism is strong. It looks like Ben Griffin just gets the nod as the man to beat at odds as low as +2200

Griffin, the No. 88 player in the world, likes to fly under the radar. Still, he's posted a handful of successive Top 40 finishes on the PGA Tour coming into the Myrtle Beach Classic.

Griffin has averaged around the 25th spot in his last five PGA Tour events, and posted consecutive Top 15 finishes at the Corales Puntacana Championship & CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

The 28-year-old shot four rounds in the 60s in Texas last week, and his progressive form makes him the odds favorite for Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach Classic Championship Favorites

Let's talk about the most likely candidates, alongside Griffin, we expect to be challenging for the Myrtle Beach Classic title this weekend. Players like Beau Hossler or Davis Thompson could pose a challenge in the event, too.

Matt Wallace (+3300)

Wallace has had a slow season but looked back towards his best at the Byron Nelson, rallying for an eventual finish of tied 4th. Wallace had opened with a 63 and led after Thursday.

Strengths

When Wallace is on song he makes birdies by the bucketload, and I fancy a low-scoring tournament this week.

Weaknesses

Wallace struggles with his temperament, but he's actively working on this behind the scenes.

Erik Van Rooyen (+2800)

Van Rooyen famously won the Worldwide Technology Championship at the end of 2023, when his friend was dying from illness back home. This year, he's continued the good form with a Top 10 finish at Vidanta and a runner-up finish at the Cognizant Classic Tournament.

Strengths

Van Rooyen is an all-around consistent player ranking 30th in strokes gained total. He's also one of the good sports of the game.

Weaknesses

He needs to up his performance when he gets closer to the hole this year, currently lying 137th in SG: around the green.

💰 Bet Van Rooyen to Win at ESPN BET North Carolina

Daniel Berger (+3000)

Usually, Daniel Berger would be teeing it up at the Wells Fargo Championship. However, after a long injury, he's just returning to form. He'll be looking for one of the late tee times come Saturday and Sunday.

Strengths

A T-13th finish at the Byron Nelson was the best finish of the season so far for Berger. So, his form is trending up ahead of the Myrtle Beach Classic tournament.

Weaknesses

The 4-time PGA Tour winner has missed the cut in 50% of his tournament starts this year.

Myrtle Beach Classic Championship Contenders

Tee times will be interesting as we see if any of the main contenders will be grouped together. For now, I have my eye on some specific players at valuable odds for the tournament:

Ryo Hisatsune (+4000)

The PGA Tour rookie has a strong pedigree behind him and has shown glimpses of what he can do with three Top 20 finishes in 2024, following a DP World Tour win in France last season.

Strengths

He has the ability to go low, closing out the Byron Nelson with a 64, finishing T-13. He owns 4 international wins.

Weaknesses

Hisatsune is not long off the tee compared to his peers, perhaps a reason for a poor show at The Masters.

💰 Bet Hisatsune to Win at Caesars Sportsbook NC

Ryan Fox (+4000)

The Aussie was one of the 10 golfers to gain exempt status on the PGA Tour in 2024, but he has been quiet so far on the stateside.

Strengths

Known as the Kiwi bomber, Fox can blitz courses, currently ranking 30th in driving distance.

Weaknesses

He needs to touch up around the greens, with a ranking of 144 in 'around the green' performance.

💰 Bet Fox to Win at Fanatics Sportsbook NC

Kevin Yu (+4500)

After an injury-ridden 2023, Yu is back on course and firmly on the ones-to-watch list.

Strengths

When the big hitter (4th in strokes gained off the tee) is good, he's good. Notching three top 10s already in 2024, with one of them in a Signature Event, he's one to watch this weekend.

Weaknesses

The man from Chinese Taipei is inconsistent, missing 7 cuts this year.

Myrtle Beach Classic Championship Longshots

Backing the longshot golfers to win at high odds is interesting for many golf bettors. There's a good chance the official champion will be from lower down the Myrtle Beach Invitational event betting when the final cards are in.

SH Kim (+4500)

SH Kim is one of the lesser-known Koreans on the circuit, but he's one to watch this season. Recent finishes of 14th at the Texas Open and 4th at the CJ Cup puts Kim on the contenders watch at Myrtle Beach.

Strengths

SH Kim is at his highest OWGR ranking of 107th.

Weaknesses

Kim has only notched one Top 10 finish in 2024, which happened at last week's event. Perhaps he's hot -- or it was a one-off performance in 2024.

Chris Gotterup (+5000)

The 24-year-old has only shown us flashes of his "fun and games" on the Korn Ferry tour in 2023, with a Top 25 finish last week at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson – undoubtedly his best effort to date. Gotterup was T-11 at the Zurich Classic event.

Strengths

Big-hitting Gotterup is 2nd in driving distance. Can he take a liberty and overpower this week's location? He might be a good bet to grab the win.

Weaknesses

While Gotterup is long off the tee he is one of the least accurate and there's plenty of trouble awaiting with many dangerous holes at this course.

Nico Echavarria (+8000)

The Colombian has put in six Top 25 finishes on the PGA Tour this season, including two top 15s. He was also T-4th in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event.

Strengths

Nico ranks 22nd in approaches from 150-175 yards, which will be a key stat on site this week.

Weaknesses

According to the statistics, Echavarria is not excelling in many areas right now, meaning he is inconsistent.

Still, his form lines show he could be a factor for the Myrtle Beach Classic tournament.

Myrtle Beach Classic Betting Trends: Past Myrtle Beach Classic Champions

This is the inaugural version of the Myrtle Beach Classic. It's a first-time PGA Tour event and the first in the history of Myrtle Beach. The Dunes Golf and Beach Club has hosted several high-profile golf events, like the PGA Tour Champions. On top of that, USGA events, collegiate tournaments, and state amateur tournaments have also been held on the golf course.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is another big event in the area, following last year's 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational basketball tournament. The HTC Center on the Coastal Carolina University Campus in Conway played host, with teams like Wichita State and Saint Louis vying for the champion tag.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is a wide-open tournament, with the shortest-priced golfers opening up with betting odds around the +2500 mark.
