Key Contributors Toward Panthers Playoff Chances
The Panthers playoff chances originally depended on Bryce Young, but the rise of new (but old-ish) QB1 Andy Dalton has people wondering if he can lead the franchise to a dream season. Expectations remain low, but a dominant road win over Las Vegas proves this team is competitive with exciting pieces.
New head coach Dave Canales and GM Dan Morgan are tasked with deciding between developing Young and building a roster around him or staying more competitive with a veteran signal-caller who led the team to nearly 40 points in his debut.
Rookie RB Jonathan Brooks and veteran WR Adam Thielen remain out for the immediate future but after monster performances from RB Chuba Hubbard & WR Diontae Johnson, the offense should be OK.
The questions about the defense remain, including struggles from the secondary that other quarterbacks might exploit. Perhaps more concerning than all is the team's run defense, one of the worst in the league.
For now, they remain competitive. Still, at 1-2, we'll see how long it lasts.

Looking Ahead: Panthers Playoff Picture
The Panthers' most likely path to the playoffs this season is being able to win the division as a Wild Card is unlikely, given the race will include teams with 10+ wins. Right now, they're only a game behind the Saints and remain firmly in the race so long as Carolina finds ways to wins games.
Are the Panthers Out of the Playoff Picture?
No team, including the Panthers, is out of the playoff picture since we are only in Week 4 of the new season.
The Carolina Panthers were eliminated from the NFL playoff picture in 2023-24.
Panthers Playoff Picture vs. NFC South
The Panthers finished last place in the NFC South. They are projected to finish in last place again next season, with their chances to win the NFC South at 6.3%.
The Buccaneers won the NFC South for the third consecutive year, finishing the season 9-8 and clinching the division against the Panthers in Week 18. The Saints missed the playoffs at 9-8, as the Bucs beat them out on tiebreakers.
The Falcons finished third in the NFC South and fired head coach Arthur Smith shortly after the season officially ended. Atlanta is now favored to win the division in 2024-25 (56.5% chance) behind newly signed QB Kirk Cousins.
Panthers Playoff Picture vs. NFC Standings
The Panthers finished last place in the NFC, as well. They are projected to finish last in the conference again in 2024, with just a 0.8% chance to win it.
Panthers Playoff Picture Outlook & Predictions for 2024
The Carolina Panthers are still in the early phases of their roster rebuild and will have to start over again with a new head coach and GM in 2024.
To truly contend, this team will need to continue to build on defense and invest much further at wide receiver. Their lack of a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, their front office hiring search, and controversy surrounding team owner David Tepper will make the next phase of their rebuild challenging.
