Who has the best odds to win the Coca-Cola 600?

Kyle Larson (+450) has the best odds to win the Coca-Cola 600.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver led 327 laps to dominate NASCAR’s longest race in 2021, and through the first 12 races of the 2024 season, Larson had notched two victories and six top-five finishes.

Another driver who will be among the odds favorites is Denny Hamlin, who won three of the season’s first 12 races and claimed the Coca-Cola 600 crown in 2022. 

However, the drivers at the top of the odds board don’t always win the 600--Ryan Blaney for instance was a +2200 odds choice before last season’s event, which he used as a springboard to his first career championship.

Last year, Ryan Blaney broke a 59-race winless streak when he took the checkered flag in Charlotte. It gave his season a big boost. The third-generation racer would win twice more during the playoffs and earn his first NASCAR Cup Series Championship.

There’s an argument to be made for Kyle Larson as the best driver currently in NASCAR, and his performance in the early part of the 2024 season has done nothing to diminish that. Through the first 12 races, his average finish was 10.8--which included two wins, and top-3 finishes in four of his last six starts.

• 📈 Strengths: Larson has an astounding 633 laps led through the first 12 races of the season, most by any driver.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 578 miles separate Concord, NC, and Indianapolis, IN, where Larson will also be attempting to run the Indy 500.

Denny Hamlin (+600)

Still chasing his first championship, Hamlin was relentless in his pursuit over the first 12 races of 2024. That span saw him win three times, tied for most on the circuit, and lead 606 laps in the process.

• 📈 Strengths: Hamlin has 20 career top-10 finishes at Charlotte, the second-most among active drivers behind Kyle Busch.
• 📉 Weaknesses: Hamlin has only one victory in 32 career starts At Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Tyler Reddick (+800)

Through the first 12 races of the season, Reddick earned a victory, a runner-up finish, and five more results in the top 10. His Charlotte track record is excellent, with top-10s in four of five career starts.

Coca-Cola 600 Contenders & Longshots

The Coca-Cola 600 has proven difficult to win as a favorite so let's take a look at other drivers to consider taking a flyer on before the race. 

William Byron (+1000)

William Byron won three times over the first 12 races, tied for most on the circuit with Hamlin, and showed off his versatility in the process--those triumphs came on a superspeedway, a short track and a road course. Byron was also runner-up to Blaney in last season’s Coca-Cola 600.

• 📈 Strengths: 91: Number of laps led in last season’s Coca-Cola 600.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 28: Average finish in his last two starts though the first weekend in May, his worst consecutive results of the season to date

Chase Elliott (+1100)

Chase Elliott completed his long journey back from a broken leg in April, when he won for the first time since late 2022. That victory was part of a torrid six-race stretch for Elliott, who finished in the top five a total of five times in six races through the first weekend of May.

• 📈 Strengths: 9.7: Average finish through the first 12 races of the season, second-best on the circuit behind Martin Truex Jr.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 131: Laps led through the season’s first 12 races, which lagged well behind the likes of Larson and Hamlin.

Martin Truex Jr. (+1100)

Martin Truex Jr's average finish of 8.9 was best on the circuit through 12 races. His stats are good at Charlotte, too, where his average finish of 13.7 is tied for first among active drivers. But in 2024, at least, he's struggling to turn consistent runs into checkered flags.

• 📈 Strengths: 3: Career wins at Charlotte Motor Speedway, most among all active drivers.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 0: Number of wins through the first 12 races of 2024.

Ty Gibbs (+1400)

Ty Gibbs is the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs has enjoyed a promising sophomore season, with six top-10s through the first 12 races of 2024. He’s twice finished as high as third over that span.

• 📈 Strengths: 137: Personal best in laps led, which came earlier this season on the Bristol short track.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 26: Finish in his lone career Charlotte start, in last season’s Coca-Cola 600.

Chris Buescher (+1400)

Chris Buescher broke through to win three times in 2023, and he backed that up with two runner-up finishes through the first 12 races of 2024. His best career finish at Charlotte was sixth in 2019.

• 📈 Strengths: 6: Number of top-10s through the first 12 races, tied for second-best on the circuit.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 18.2: Average finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway, tied for 16th among active drivers.

Bubba Wallace (+2800)

Bubba Wallace contended for race wins twice through the season’s first dozen events, challenging for victories at Atlanta and Texas. He also recorded his best career Charlotte finish in last season’s Coca-Cola 600, where he wound up fourth.

• 📈 Strengths: 6: Number of races where he laps through the first 12 events of the season.
• 📉 Weaknesses: 3: Number of DNFs (short for did not finish) he's suffered in just seven career Charlotte starts.

If you’re looking for a consistent performer in Charlotte, look no further than Martin Truex Jr and Kyle Busch. Truex, 43, has won the Coca-Cola 600 twice and finished in the top 10 seven times in his last 10 years. He came in third last year.

Busch, 38, has 8 top 10s in the last 10 years, including a win there in 2018. Last year, he finished sixth.

Truex has odds of +1100 to win his second Cup Series title. Busch, a two-time Cup Series winner, is available at +450.
