With Dalton authoring arguably the best Panthers' win in two-plus seasons in Week 3, Young's future became even more cloudy at North Carolina sportsbooks.
Less than 24 months ago, Young was the consensus No. 1 overall prospect for most NFL Draft pundits (yes, even ahead of C.J. Stroud). But how the quickly the mighty have fallen. Despite handling his benching (and other organizational dysfunction) with a fair amount of class, there simply is no hiding the game tape when it comes to Young's play. He went 2-16 as a starter for the Panthers, and the offense took off against the Raiders on Sunday once he picked up a clipboard.
The team's performance with Dalton - and without Young - is a damning factor for the former Alabama QB's trade value.
That said, plenty of NFL teams still have questions at quarterback. And another hard fact for Panthers fans is that several of their former QBs have regained their form in new homes (Sam Darnold in Minnesota and Baker Mayfield in Tampa). A resurgence for Young in a new setting is not out of the question.
That new setting just may be the Miami Dolphins (+1050), where injuries to both Tua Tagovailoa and Skylar Thompson have left a massive void on Mike McDaniel's depth chart. McDaniel is also adept at bringing along a young signal-caller. Tagovailoa got off to a rough start in Miami despite being a first round pick, as then-head coach Brian Flores much preferred Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. Under McDaniel, Tagovailoa regained his confidence and led the Dolphins to an 11-6 record in 2023.
Could McDaniel replicate that story with Young? Time will tell.
