Addams Family Daughter And Bettlejuice Reign

We’re projecting the most popular 2024 Halloween costume in North Carolina to be Wednesday Addams, the youngest daughter of the creepy and kooky Addams Family. Created by cartoonist Charles Addams, the macabre Addams clan first appeared in the pages of The New Yorker magazine in 1938. But it was their 1960s TV series that made Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley and Wednesday Addams international icons. Netflix’s 2022 teen drama “Wednesday,” starring Jenna Ortega, has put the Addams Family back in the limelight once more — inspiring a wave of wannabe goths to dig up their blackest attire for Halloween 2024.

Second on our list of popular 2024 Halloween costumes is Beetlejuice, another goth making a comeback this year. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the sequel to the 1988 dark comedy from director Tim Burton, hit theatres in September. The new movie has already grossed over $300 million internationally at the box office, so it’s no surprise to see Beetlejuice’s characteristic black-and-white pinstripe costume also making a comeback during Halloween 2024. What’s more, the new film features “Wednesday” lead actress Ortega as the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character from the first film.

Strong Comic Book Representation

Expect to also see plenty of comic book representation across North Carolina this Halloween as well. Deadpool (tied for fourth on our list), Harley Quinn (T7th), Spider-Man (ninth), and Batman (10th) are all slated to be among the most popular costumes in 2024.

Of course, Deadpool also made bank at the box office this year, with “Deadpool & Wolverine” exceeding $1 billion in global ticket sales. Expect Harley Quinn to make a splash on the big screen this October too. Lady Gaga will star as the cult comic book character from the Batman universe in “Joker: Folie à Deux” alongside Joaquin Phoenix. The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2019 origin story of Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime hits theatres Oct. 4.

Pop culture figures dominate our list, but we still expect plenty of timeless classics to be among the most popular costumes worn for trick-or-treat night. Expect to see plenty of princesses (third), witches (T4th), ghosts (sixth) and pirates (T7th) hunting for candy across North Carolina in 2024.
