It’s been a lost decade of men’s basketball in Winston-Salem, as the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have gone seven seasons without making the NCAA Tournament and haven’t won a game in March Madness since 2010.
With Steve Forbes posting three straight seasons at or above .500 in ACC play, it seems like only a matter of time until the Deacons break through and get back to the tourney, though that shouldn’t detract from the legion of stars that have suited up for Wake of late.
Between Forbes’ ACC Coach of the Year award in 2022 and Alondes Williams taking home the conference’s Player of the Year honor that season, along with forward John Collins earning the Most Improved Player of the Year honor in 2017, there have been a few silver linings for the Deacons of late.
Utilizing SportsReference.com, BetCarolina.com developed the Wake Forest Men’s Basketball team of the past decade from 2014-15 to 2023-24. The players included had to have played for Wake Forest during this period and it is based on the combination of PER and Win Shares during those years with the team. If only North Carolina sports betting were legal when these players were in their prime.
Wake Forest Men’s Basketball Team of Last Decade
This information won't help you on North Carolina sports betting apps, but it's nice to reminisce with these elite Demon Deacons of the last 10 years. Here is our Wake Forest Demon Deacons Men's Basketball Team of the last decade (2014-2024).
Which Wake Forest Players Made All-Decade Team?
The Deacons’ top player when it came to combined PER + WS totals was Collins, who finished his three-year run in Winston-Salem with a total of 38.3 PER + WS, beating out guard Jake LaRavia, who had a total of 28.7 PER + WS in 2021 and 2022.
Rounding out the list was Williams, who finished his two-year run in 2021 and 2022 with a total of 28.6 PER + WS, while guard Bryant Crawford (27.5 PER + WS between 2015 and 2018) and forward Devin Thompson (27.5 PER + WS between 2014 and 2016) were the others to make the Wake Forest team.
While no Wake players have earned All-American nods since Al-Faroq Aminu did in 2010, both Williams and LaRavia made it onto the 2022 All-ACC teams, while Collins did the same five years earlier.
Those five stars, along with many others that didn’t make the cut, did more than enough to earn their share of the limelight during their respective careers at Wake Forest, even if the Deacons haven’t reached the Big Dance since 2017.
