The Tar Heels are not the only North Carolina school projected to improve in the upcoming college football season and perhaps, anticipate a shot at the ACC Championship game. Their in-state rivals, the NC State Wolfpack, are ready to showcase legitimate progress following an 8-5 finish in 2022, a Duke’s Mayo Bowl appearance, and a refined spring training camp.
The Wolfpack (+1600) have the fifth-best odds to win the ACC title across North Carolina sports betting, ahead of established programs like Duke and Pittsburgh, both of whom finished with better overall records in the previous campaign.
For backers who enjoy extremely long-shot odds and hope for the best during a season, the Wolfpack are +25000 to win the College Football Playoff at BetMGM Sportsbook. Keep that in mind down the road when heading to BetMGM North Carolina early next year.
Reason For Hope
Realistically speaking, NC State will come closer to clinching a conference title rather than contending for a national championship. And the reinforcements in their offense ready to complement a No. 1 ranked defense last year speaks volumes about their potential for the 2023 season.
The Wolfpack have reunited UVA-transfer quarterback Brennan Armstrong with his ex-offensive coordinator, Robert Anae, who will be executing the same duties in Raleigh in 2023. Currently, Armstrong is +15000 to win the illustrious Heisman Trophy over at Caesars Sportsbook.
The Wolfpack will need to repeat similar magic as they did last year, defeating No. 11 Florida State in a two-point nail bitter and an overtime victory against the Tar Heels late in the season, to prove they are serious ACC challengers.
Next season, the Wolfpack’s toughest stretch of games can ultimately determine their season. But when will that be?
BetCarolina.com created a point system to determine the toughest 3-game stretch of the Wofpack’s 2023 schedule for the upcoming college football season. We awarded 4 points to each opponent that won at least 7 games last season, 3 points to each opponent that won at least 6 games, 3 points for an away game, and 2 points for a conference opponent.

Toughest Stretch of NC State’s Schedule Is...
Toughest Challenge Is At End of Season
After the departure of ex-Deacon and the conference’s all-time leader in touchdown passes, Sam Hartman, Wake Forest will be entering the 2023 season facing much more uncertainty than they did in the previous four years. A 8-5 record with a Gasparilla Bowl victory provided much hope for the next season on hypothetical NC betting apps. However, that all changed when Hartman ditched Wake Forest for Notre Dame.
Currently, the Deacons are +5000 to win the ACC.
After traveling to Wake Forest in Week 10, the Wolfpack will travel to Blacksburg, Va., to face the Hokies. Last year, the Hokies finished dead last in the ACC Coastal standings with a 3-8 overall record.
But the Hokies are expected to slightly improve as their over/under has been set at 5.5 wins. Expect Virginia Tech to present a real challenge to the Wolfpack, as NC State required a 12-0 shutout in the fourth quarter last season to secure a 22-21 victory.
Lastly, their in-state rivals will be in search of revenge. Led by NFL-caliber quarterback and Heisman candidate Drake Maye, the Tar Heels are expected to generate noise as one of the lead sleepers in the ACC and will take on the Wolfpack in Week 12. Check out The Toughest Stretch of Tar Heels’ 2023 Football Schedule as well.
One of the most intriguing matchups in the ACC schedule, NC State earned the best of them last season with a three-point overtime win.
