North Carolina’s Favorite Halloween Candy

The winner, at least for search volume (with a score of 51), is an old standby that most people either love or hate: Candy corn.

It has been something that parents and neighbors have handed to little ones for decades and it will remain that way when kids (or adults) wearing the top 2024 Halloween costumes for North Carolina come knocking on doors on Oct. 31.

Brach’s has been selling candy corn for more than 100 years and describes the three-color, cone-shaped product as having “Memorable texture and honey-forward flavor.”

In a way, it’s amazing that Brach’s moves as much product as it does, because even self-proclaimed fans of the stuff don’t really do a good job of selling it when they’re asked to describe candy corn. Take comedian Shannon Fiedler, who called herself “vehemently pro candy corn” on a 2023 YouTube video.

“It's like this waxy texture. You get to eat it once a year. It's tricolor. That's always fun,” Fiedler said last year on her @shannonfiedler13 channel. "Also, I know it's disgusting. Candy corn is objectively kind of gross, but that's what makes it good.”

Skittles Second on Halloween Candy List

In second place on our list, with a search volume score of 35 for the period we researched, is Skittles. This is another multi-color candy with each individual piece a different color (its “Taste The Rainbow” slogan is pretty self-explanatory). In a similar vein is fourth-place Starburst.

Chocolate treats appear in the forms of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Milky Way candies, finishing third and fifth, respectively, in our rankings based on searches. Check out our list of the most popular chocolate candy in North Carolina, at BetCarolina.com, for some items that might have more year-round appeal than candy corn, which seems to be strictly a Halloween thing.
