Hurricanes Season On The Brink Following Game 3 Loss

Hurricanes Season On The Brink Following Game 3 Loss
Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

The Carolina Hurricanes lost in familiar fashion to the Florida Panthers on Monday evening, dropping a 1-0 game in Game 3 to fall behind 3-0 in their Eastern Conference Final series.

Of all the games Carolina has lost this year, this one definitely hurt the most. Not only did it drop the Hurricanes into an almost insurmountable hole, but the way in which they lost had to leave Canes fans, bettors and players feeling hopeless. Carolina did everything they could and played their game exactly how they wanted to. And in the very week we may see expanded North Carolina sports betting legislation move forward.

By limiting shots against and taking several of their own, the Canes were able to control the pace of the game but once again were done in by their inability to convert offensively. Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was perfect in his first ever playoff shutout, stopping all 32 shots faced. But it never really felt like the Hurricanes were threatening to score with top players Andrei Svechnikov and Max Pacioretty out with injury and Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas and others unable to take over.

Unfortunately, there are no legal online sports betting sites or apps available for North Carolina bettors to wager on the game, such as a BetMGM North Carolina.

Canes Waste A Gem From Andersen In Goal

Brent Burns and Jaccob Slavin have logged the most minutes for the team on defense, but have also been on the ice for all three game winning goals, albeit with two of them coming while on the penalty kill. The PK hasn’t given up a ton, but for the top unit in the league they haven’t been able to deliver when it has mattered most, either.

Those two players and the defensive unit as a whole needs to be better with the margin for error as slim as can be.

Goalie Fredrik Andersen has to feel the most frustrated of all the Hurricanes. He stopped 16 of 17 shots in a strong performance, but didn’t get an ounce of offensive support and was saddled with another loss. After stopping 57 of 60 in Game 1, that’s now two excellent showings for the Canes number one goalie that have been wasted.

Carolina is now facing elimination for the first time this year and will have to win Game 4 as an underdog to bring the series back to Raleigh. At +100 on DraftKings Sportsook the Canes have strong opening value on the moneyline as they will be playing as desperate as they possibly can to keep their season going.

It is once again expected to be a low scoring affair, as the 5.5 over/under is favored to go under at -125. Keep close to this site ahead of the next NHL season in which the state is expected to have North Carolina sports betting apps.

Do You Believe In Miracles?

If Carolina bettors are hoping for a miracle comeback, the Canes are +900 to win their next four games and advance to the Stanley Cup Final and are +2000 to win the Cup. Winning four straight seems extremely unlikely, but a desperate effort in Game 4 should be enough to cash in an underdog bet for that game and send Carolina home for another chance to win in front of their home crowd.
